The 10-Minute Weekly Kitchen Reset

A 10-minute weekly kitchen reset is a short routine before the weekly shop: check what is expiring, update your list, and plan a few meals from what you already have.

Why ten minutes before shopping

Most households we hear from shop on a weekly rhythm and cook from what is at home when they can. A short reset before you leave turns inventory into meals-and stops the cart from filling with duplicates.

The reset, step by step

  1. Sort by expiry (2–3 min) - open fridge, freezer and pantry lists and sort by date. Note what needs using this week.
  2. Mark what is gone or low (2–3 min) - delete or mark consumed what you finished; lower quantities or add low items to the shopping list.
  3. Update the shopping list (2 min) - use Essentials for staples you always want in stock, then add anything else you need.
  4. Plan two or three meals from stock (3 min) - pick meals that use soon-to-expire items. In NoWaste you can generate recipe ideas from inventory; meal plans are a Pro feature.

What Free vs Pro means here

Free covers lists, expiry dates, sort/filter, shopping lists and recipe books for one location. Pro adds expiry reminders, meal plans, more locations and other upgrades. Reminders are Pro only-Free still shows dates when you sort.

Keep the habit light

Pair the reset with FIFO in the pantry (first in, first out) and a shared list so you are not the only memory for the house (kitchen memory aids). Broader waste tips: easy ways to stop food waste at home.
