How to Track Fridge, Freezer and Pantry
To track fridge, freezer and pantry food in NoWaste, create a location, open those inventory lists, add items (manually or by scan), and invite household members so everyone shares the same stock.
1. Create a location
A location is a place you store food—home, cabin, boat, and more. In NoWaste, open the Locations tab and create a location with a name and icon. Free includes one location; Pro allows up to 20.
2. Use fridge, freezer and pantry lists
Each location has inventory lists. Open Inventories from the location/list pill on the Inventory tab, expand your location, and select Fridge, Freezer and Pantry (or create more lists such as a garage freezer).
View one list at a time or select several so you see the full picture of what is at home.
3. Add food three ways
- Write — type the name, pick inventory, category, quantity and expiry date.
- Scan — use the barcode scanner. Free covers 600,000+ local products across 15 countries; Pro reaches 4 million products across 150 countries. Details in barcode scanning for groceries.
- Photo — photograph a receipt or groceries and review what NoWaste detects before adding.
4. Sort, search and move items
Search by name, sort by expiry or category, and move items between lists (for example pantry → fridge) when you change how you store food. Mark items opened when shelf life shortens after opening.
5. Connect shopping lists and recipes
Shopping lists, recipe books and meal plans belong to the same location as your inventory. Copy low stock to a shopping list, generate recipe ideas from what you have, and plan meals around items that need using first.
6. Invite the household
Invite members from the location so partners and roommates see the same fridge, freezer and pantry lists on iPhone, Android or the web. That is the core of a household food inventory app.
Expiry dates and reminders
Add expiry dates on items so you can sort what needs using first. Expiry reminders are Pro only—Free still tracks dates; Pro notifies you before food goes off. See reduce food waste with expiry tracking.
